This is going to be a love note. I love you John Waters, I love you outlaw cinama, I love you Maggie Gyllanhall as a satanist, I love you Adrian Granier.
I loved this movie 10 years ago when it came out, but as we all know things we liked 10 years ago rarely hold up. The DVD starts up as a fake menu screen for Honey Whitlock's newest film, then the static sets in and the DeMented take over. Next is a montage of movie marquees that change over from mainstream movie titles to the opening credits.
Melanie Griffith is the Hollywood actress Honey Whitlock, who Cecil and his followers kidnap. They are insane in various ways from Maggie's satanic interests/ make up girl, to Adrian's various drug addictions, and Alicia Witt as a porn star who has made porn versions of all of Honey's films. Each member of the cult introduces themselves to Honey by name, occupation and flashing of their tattoo of their Patron Saint of Outlaw Cinema.
(Maggie has Kenneth Anger.)
To make a long story ( that you should watch) short, Honey gets all Stockholm on them and becomes a "sprockethole" and defender of Outlaw Cinema.
Quotes:
We've all taken a vow of celibacy for celluloid. No one gets laid until we finish our movie. We're horny, but our film comes first.
Hey hey MPAA, how many movies did you censor today?
- Honey Whitlock: How can you be a drug addict in the new millennium? It's so retro.
- Lyle: Before I was a drug addict, I had so many different problems. Now I just have one: drugs. Gave my life real focus.
- Honey Whitlock: Ow Rodney, why do you have to hurt me? Gay men are supposed to be gentle!
- Rodney: That's just it, Honey, I'm not gay. I'm straight and I fucking hate it! Petey loves me and I can't love him back. I tried. I kiss him, and all I feel is whiskers. I can't take that certain thickness in his pants. I'm ashamed of my heterosexuality!
