True Grit (2010)

I liked True Grit. I know everyone finds that shocking. It was pretty. I think the artistic aspect of the first scene and the beauty of the cinematography where what got me. I claim I have never seen the original. ( Growing up with people who like westerns, that might not be true. My godmother's dog was named Duke to put it lightly.) I did read that the original was filmed near where I used to live in Colorado, so that interests me.

What I didn't like was the whole scene in the cabin/dugout/lean to ( which was it?). I closed my eyes when the fingers were cut off. I also hate snakes so that was a bad time for me. I also didn't understand how after he spanked her she just got right up and rode her horse for miles... I wonder if the guy hanging in the tree is in the book, and if so if they explain why he was hung so high. I read that this movie follows the book more closely than the original movie.

Want to know what my favorite western is? Ok... it's... The Gambler Returns: Luck of the Draw. I had this movie on VHS and loved it, especially Reba McEntire as sassy Burgundy Jones. To this day her line "I wouldn't give you the sweat off my horses ass." still comes to mind from time to time.
