I have some kind of teenage fascination with songs about drugs and alcohol. I heard Cocaine Chest Pains by Kopek on the radio today and had to look up who it was. I have never heard of Kopek before. Their Wiki says that they are an Irish trio. I must admit that I like it.
I have said before that I like songs that are about drugs, but say they're about women such as Fleetwood Mac's Gold Dust Woman or Head East's Never Been Any Reason. I also like Godsmack's Whiskey Hangover, even though I never saw myself as a Godsmack fan. I don't really like Eric Clapton's Cocaine. I tried to do some research into why they can play that song with no problem, but the line " filling up on cocaine and whiskey" from the Kid Rock/ Sheryl Crow duet Picture bleeps it out? Is it the market that it's broadcasting to that censors it? I don't understand.
I think this is due to my upbringing. I grew up in a time when fashion was labeled as "heroin Chic" And President Clinton had to tell fashion to stop glorifying drug use. We grew knowing Kurt Cobain as that prolific guy who died. There is a Francisca Lia Block story in Girl Godness # 9 about when Kurt Cobain died. I guess there is a lot of drug songs I liked K's Choice .- I'm not an addict, The Dandy Warhols- Not if you were the last junkie on Earth, Johnny Thunders- Too much Junkie Business. I don't have any real reason for it, cept it's hip to be bad.
