Things I spend some time worrying about.

Am I well read? 

Compared to the general public I am a reader. I set goals each year on goodreads and I meet them.  I don't own a TV and make time for reading. ( Mostly in the bathtub. I'm always one to kill two birds with one stone. Not as Kinky Friedman titled Kill Two Birds and Get Stoned.) 

I tend to read for pleasure. Books I identify with. Since High School people have told me I have an ability to find awesome books. But do I read the classics. Yawn. No. Every year I say I will. But should I? Will I be a better person if I read all of Jane Austen? Probably not, but I most likely will see how often it is ripped off in other women's fiction. 

This list of books to consider yourself well read is sorta laughable to me. Why? Because most of these books I was required to read in public high school and college...  Which would make the majority of the US population who went on to College well read. 

This list  I am more aligned to agree with. These books are less English Lit and more broad and over looked. I think The Book Thief on there was what made me say a silent "Yes!" when I opened it. These books include several major motion pictures- The Help, Clockwork Orange, The Godfather, Kite Runner, Lolita. Things that non literary people don't even know were books first. 

I say who gives a F what you read as long as your reading. I'm sure my 5th grade teacher felt the same when I read a Garth Brooks bio. I don't pretend to be scholarly, I just want to be surrounded by books and people who love them.

Things I discovered last night. 

I finally found The Light !

When I was in High School my mom bought a Jefferson Starship album and for the last 20 years the line " Contemplated metaphysics in her BVDs" has been in my head. Numerous searches over the years were fruitless and I was left to believe that I either made it all up, or it only existed in some 1990s vacuum. 

This strange psychedelic youtube video became my proof.  

I feel validated. I feel complete...
